Cannot backup from NAS - File or folder blocked by another application
Hello,
With ATI 2019 (Build 14690), I am unable to backup files and folders from a NAS to a local hard drive. The network drive is mapped in Windows 10 and I do not see any other program that is accessing the NAS. I receive a general error message (see image that I uploaded).
I am able to access the file and folders on the NAS without problems with Windows 10. The NAS enclosure is a DLINK DNS-327L (Firmware: 1.10. Hardware: A1. Date: 2018/3/19).
The reason why the backup fails seems quite obvious, because ATI 2019 does not ask for my NAS credentials when I specify the network location. This is confirmed when I look at the NAS log:

OK, after some research, I came upon this solution: https://kb.acronis.com/content/59051 and ATI now asks for my NAS credentials. However, even if the credentials are the right ones (I just logged into the NAS with Internet explorer by specifying the credentials), ATI fails to login.

I restarted the computer and created a new task. Unfortunately, I still get the same error message.
When I look at the log of the NAS, there is an indication of an authentication failure (I double-checked the user and password - no problem logging in NAS with Windows 10 or through Firefox). CIFS is activated on the NAS. Is it because the NAS relies upon SMBv1 (v2 or v3 not available)? With an old version of Acronis True Image (version 10) under Windows 7 (64-bit), I have no problem accessing the NAS and doing the backup.

This may be more down to that Windows 10 has removed support for SMB 1.0 with the recent update versions.
You are right, SMB 1.0 is not installed by default on Win10. However, this is a feature that can be enabled manually ("Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features on or off > check or uncheck the box for "SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support" "). I did it to gain access to the NAS with Win 10. Unfortunately this did not solve the problem with TI 2019.
Michael, as far as I understand ATI is agnostic with regards to the SMB version, relying on Windows to deal with the transport method used across the network.
Out of interest, can you create a small backup going in the opposite direction, i.e. backup some files & folders to the NAS?
I would recommend downloading the MVP Log Viewer tool to help in looking at the Acronis logs for this issue - link below in my signature.

Michael, what exactly are you selecting to backup from the NAS for this backup task? The log shows:

This looks like a single database type file, and the first error being reported here is:

Have you tried backing up other folders with files from the NAS to test whether this is an issue with the above file or a more general problem. I do not see any evidence in the log of a credentials issue here.

It was just an example. I was getting tired of waiting for the whole backup to cancel every time. Here is the log for the files and folder I would like to backup. I also attached a screen copy of the NAS log related to this failed backup task. Note that the time is not exactly the same on the NAS and the computer, but the NAS log is related to the task below.

The initial error 0x17001a for snapshot is expected as snapshot is not supported for remote drives, so can be ignored.
My NAS log also shows just successful connections from the PC running this task.
One option here might be to try defining a mapped drive letter to your NAS Photos folder and try using that mapped drive as the Source for the backup?

First, since your NAS device only supports SMB v1.0 I strongly suggest that you upgrade the device to one that supports at least SMB v2.0 and preferably SMB v3.0. The security risk posed by the SMB v1.0 protocol simply is not worth the risk.
Having said that you may be faced with an issue that was present in Win 10 version 1803 in which the Add Features process to enable SMB v1.0 when selected failed to install the SMB v1.0 Client.
There was a fix issued for that which you can find a link to HERE
Sorry Michael, just tested the same and can see that it doesn't reflect that a mapped drive letter is being used as ATI still resolves this to the actual NAS path.
I am running short of ideas at present so may need to see if Enchantech can offer any other suggestions here or any of the other MVP's or users? You may want to consider opening a Support ticket with Acronis for this in case they can drill down further into what the log errors mean in this context.

What is strange is that there is no authentification problem for ATI 2019 if the NAS is the destination instead of the source for the backup. Maybe with the systeminfo_true_image tool the ATI support team will find a fix.

Are you running Windows 10 version 1803?
You can use and Admin instance of PowerShell to view your SMB configuration to check and see if SMB 1.0 is enabled:
At the prompt type: Get-SmbServerConfiguration
Then, look for this result as shown below:
The arrow is pointing to the result. If SMB 1.0 is enabled the result will be True.

This is definitely a problem related to True Image 2019. To determine if the NAS configuration was the cause of the problem, I just tried a competing backup product which I will not name here and it worked out of the box to backup the source NAS folder. What is strange is that I have no problem backing up to the NAS (destination) with ATI 2019, so the authentication should not be the problem. The problem arises only when I try to backup from the NAS.
Michael, any issue here looks to be specific to your DLINK NAS in conjunction with ATI 2019 so can only repeat about the need to raise a Support Ticket with Acronis for further investigation.

I missed your earlier post. I looked at this solution, but I does not seem to apply (the fix seems already included on my computer because Win10 won't let me install this fix). Furthermore, I am able to access my NAS with Win10.
