I have a plain vanilla MyCloud rather than an Ex 2 but I had a similar problem with ATI 2018. I reported it to both Acronis and WD but neither had much interest in pursuing the problem. (Acronis support actually spent a lot of time but seemed to go off in the wrong direction.) I eventually gave up and bought a Synology NAS.
Here are the details of the failure I experienced.:
ATI claims there is a connection failure as thought it had to do with unauthenticated credentials. However, a packet trace shows that there is, in fact, a successful connection and FTP login. There is the usual FTP exchange of attribute information. The MyCloud FTP server says it supports MLST and ATI sends an MLST to get directory information. The FTP server responds saying ATI does not have authority to display the root directory and ATI just gives up and reports a connection failure. It doesn't even bother to break the FTP control connection.
I have no idea whether the problem lies in the server or client, but there is clearly an incompatibility. The WD FTP server has no trouble talking with other clients (as you've discovered) and ATI has not trouble talking with several other FTP servers.
This is frustrating because the much older and slower WD MyBookLive FTP server - which does not support MLST - works just fine with ATI. I suspect that ATI would work with the MyCloud FTP server if it (ATI) ignored the MLST support.
I no longer have the packet traces or I could provide more detail.
I don't remember if I have tried this with ATI 2019. I guess I should.
Update:
I get the same error on ATI 2019 that I got on 2018. The failing FTP command is "MLST /" - issuing MLST for the root directory. The FTP server is pure-FTPd but WD may have a special configuration or modification if it. It might be useful to know if ATI works with any other implementation of pure-FTPd.
