Can't manually add existing backups

Thread needs solution

acronis 2019 on windows 10 with existing folder of 6 backups.  starting the software does not show my backups automatically under the backup tab on 4 computers.  on one computer all 6 backups showed up right away.  also i can not add backups manually because the .tib files do not show up in acronis even though they are there in windows.

John, welcome to these User Forums.

What application created your backup image files here?  The name format shown in your right-hand image does not look like any recent version of Acronis True Image even though these are shown as .tib files.  I have also never seen matching .XML files with ATI backup files.

Acronis backup & Recovery 11.5 .

On my laptop ATI 2019 auto found these files and i am able to recover them to blank hard drives for deployment.  i installed the same ATI 2019 on other laptops also running win 10 and did not have that same luck.  i can browse to them in windows and right click and "validate" and then they show up in ATI.  it is really strange how i get different behavior on different laptops.  they are all dell 7480 running windows 10.

my other plan was to recover the ABR images to hard drives and create new images files with ATI. This plan is working so far but the image files created by ATI are 10GB and the source images from ABR 11.5 are only 3.3GB.

also thank you so much for your quick response.  i was wondering if i would get a response at all.  You truly earned that LEGEND status !!!

I installed TI 2019 trial today due to an unrelated backup problem I was having with 2018. I installed over 2018, all backups were listed, but TI 2019 recovery option in windows reported "missing version 1" on every full backup I tried. I then created a flash boot drive and performed the recovery after booting into 2019 with no problem.

So, I uninstalled & reinstalled 2019, and now the 10 full backups on 2 USB drives are not listed. Using the add existing backup routine will allow me to view stored TI 2018 backup on either USB hard drive. I select a backup to add, hit add button, but it does not get added to list. Tried many times, different USB drives, both full & file backups, but none get added to backup listing. I will try validating one of them via windows explorer and see if that gets them listed in 2019.

John, validating a backup restored it to the TI 2019 listing, thanks. No big deal for me, I'll validate the grand-kids backups (I back their laptops up when they visit, they are prone to virus's) and make new ones for my 3 computers.

John, please see KB document 1689: Backup archive compatibility across different product versions

This does not show any real compatibility between ATI 2019 and ABR 11.5 (in terms of testing of such being performed by Acronis) so difficult to say how such ABR backups would be shown or added in the main ATI GUI panels.

William, if you are still having issues with your backups and not finding version 1 etc, then please use the option to 'Create New Topic' so that we can try to help you with that matter without confusing this topic from John.

good afternoon.  I am still experiencing some strange behavior i was hoping you could help with.

i have 6 images created with acronis backup and recover 11.5.  all 6 images are basically the same, windows 7 embeded and a small handfull of files for the specific device requirements.  the images created by ABR11.5 are all approx 3GB.  I am recovering them to a disk using ABR11.5 and physically moving the disk to my win 10 pc running ATI2019 to create new images that are more compatible with ATI 2019.

The problem is that the new images are not consistent at all.  the first image was 2.8 GB and the next was 8 GB.  in the screenshots you can see that the contents of the drives are basically the same but result in wildly different image sizes.  i  have been trying this all day and have made sure that all of the backup settings are the same.  they are full backups with max compression and VSS.  i have tried this with all 6 original images and the same image always results in the 2.8 GB image.2018-10-23 13_59_08-Acronis True Image 2019.png2018-10-23 13_59_26-Acronis True Image 2019.png2018-10-23 13_59_47-Windows Images 10-17-2018.png

John, sorry but I have no experience with using ABR 11.5 so am unable to comment on any difference in how this creates backup images as compared with ATI 2019.

The difference in size for the backup images created by ATI 2019 would suggest that the larger one of these was created using sector-by-sector mode, which ATI will default to using if any sector issues are detected in the backup source.

I would recommend running CHKDSK /R for the source drives giving these larger backup sizes to see if this finds and corrects the issue and allows a smaller backup to be achieved.

i ran chkdsk and found no errors.  also i performed a sector by sector backup and it was 60 GB so i don't think thats what is happening.  i monitor the size of the back up in real time and it slowly grows to around 2 or 3 GB and then the last 5 GB grows very fast .  feels like its just copying a bunch of zeros when this happens.  i dont know what is happening but so far this ATI 2019 is terrible compared to the 5 year old ABR11.5.  i seriously regret purchasing these licenses.

John, have you tried exploring your ATI 2019 backup .tib file to see if you can see where the extra 5GB is located?  If you mount the backup to a drive letter, you can use such as TreeSize Free to get a detailed breakdown of folder/file sizes for analysis.

The other option would be to open a Support Case direct with Acronis and work with them to investigate why there should be such a difference between ATI and ABR with regards to backup file sizes?
