cloud Back Up Security Concerns

Thread needs solution

I am new to Acronis, so I apologize if this has already been covered......

How safe is my data with cloud backups? I keep hearing of large organisations being hacked.

If I want to recover a file, how easy is it? I use Zoolz and it can take 24 hours to recover a file!

If I backup to the cloud, then there is no reason to keep a local backup? Or should I have a second backup?

What happens is Acronis ceases to exist? How will I get my data?

I just wan to make sure that I have a 100% reliable backup policy in place

Thanks

Timothy, welcome to these public User Forums.

When you create any Cloud backup using Acronis True Image, you have the option to encrypt the data using a password or pass-phrase that is known only to you.  If you forget or lose the encryption key, then the data is not recoverable by Acronis or anyone else!

Recovery of individual files should be as quick & easy as most other operations with ATI but will depend to an extent on the size of file involved and the speed of your internet connection etc.

When choosing a Cloud data centre for storing your data, then you should always choose the one that is located closest to where you live, which Acronis will try to default to based on the information provided by you in your account profile.

Personally, I would never rely on having only Cloud backups for my data - this is by far the slowest method of both storing and recovering data due to the reliance on high-speed internet connections for best performance.

I would recommend having a mix of backup types and storage locations.

See The Ultimate Guide to Computer Backup - Acronis for a good overview of how you should approach securing your backup data.

Ditto to Steve. The overall security is good. However no backup is fool proof and can be susceptible to corruption or failure (to the cloud and back or in a local environment) and that's not unique to Acronis, but all backup products.

I would keep at least one local backup and supplement off-site with Cloud as a secondary or third option. Local backups will be much faster to backup and restore... A matter of minutes or hours (depending on the total backup size)... Where the cloud can be hours to days (or longer if it's a lot of data). Cloud or off-site backups give you something to fall back on in case all of your local backups fail (lost, stolen, corrupted or damaged drives).

You could also have a secondary Cloud backup to another Acronis location. At various times I have had a mixture of backups going to Australia (where I am located) USA, UK and France.
