Creating Special directories for Win 10 Pro & Reinstall

Thread needs solution

Somehow during a cloning process (using TI) from HD to SSD of an older version of Win 10 Pro (about 2-3 years ago), the proprietary file structure did not copy correctly to allow upgrading to 1703 or later.  It should be noted that all patches to 1607 are applied, and the OS runs fine.  It just fails in updating to a newer release 'Creator Update'.

I'm now stuck with Win 10 Pro 1607.14393.2214 and keep getting error 0x800704B8 or 0x80070020 or 0x80070643 or 0xc1900130  ... when trying to update to .

The issue I believe, is that the space needed in front of the drive is not there.  Any hint on tools and methodology to fix this cloning mess.  My main issue is that all this copy protection and s/n, key stuff creates a HUGE problem if I reinstall all the software, Adobe not being the least of my problems. I tried to delete off the affected machine keyed software and reinstall on a new laptop - Lenovo W540 to W541 (both are POS!), but in several instances the developer would not reissue the key, or it used up one of my installs.

So.. my aim would be to reinstall win 10 1607 properly from an Win ISO, then restore from my True Image backup without destroying the partitioning.  Else, re partition the existing drive to meet the 1607 map, then of course update to the latest Win 10 version.

Adobe in all it's wisdom, now will not update to the latest releases, as my OS is deemed too old!

Chris, are you saying from the above that the clone was done 2-3 years back but that everything has been working OK since other than not being able to upgrade?

By definition, a clone is an exact duplicate copy of one disk drive to a second, right down to duplicating the drive signature, so very hard to understand how or why the file structure would have been copied incorrectly?

Do you remember which actual version of Acronis True Image was used for the clone, and whether this was the full commercial product or was it an OEM version provided by the SSD vendor / maker?

Chris,

Your error codes point to Windows Update utility being corrupted.  Follow the link provided and select Windows 10 then, download and run the Windows Update troubleshooter.  It should resolve your problem.
