Data recovery not working

Thread needs solution

To recover I follow the first part of the KB article. I load the backup by: Backup -> Add Existing Backup and select the most recent TIB file (in my case an incremental one). I click on Recovery, select what I want to restore (in my case a whole drive but I tried with a single file as well), click next, Restore To: I select appropriate location where I want the data (clicking keep original structure makes no difference), click Recover Now, and I get:

Capture.PNG

A completely blank part of the window, I can wait minutes, nothing happens.

Note: The backup TIB files are on USB disk. The target location is on a different USB disk, both have NTFS file system.

The question, how to restore the data (not interested in answers of the type, mount the TIB file, use file explorer etc. This is the way they advertise their product to work, this needs to work).

Just tried a simple file recovery on my own ATI 2019 system via the main GUI and all looks fine to the point where I would click on the 'Recover now' button to perform the action.

What size of backup .tib file is involved here?

Have you tried doing a Validate for the .tib file?

Even though you are not interested in using file explorer etc, are you able to open the .tib file in file explorer and can you navigate through the structure?

You are working with a Trial version of the product.  Recovery using the product as installed in Windows or Mac is unavailable and is a limitation of the Trial version as outlined in the link below:

Trial version limitations

Recovery is an essential part of the process and of the software, if it cannot be tried out, the trial version is useless for evaluation of the software capabilities. Why does acronis even offer trial version then?

Trial is offered so that users can get a feel for the application.  Finding trial versions of any software that are fully enabled is next to impossible.  Backup and recovery are the primary features of True Image thus recovery has been disabled in the trial versions.  You can create boot media and perform a recovery if you desire to do so.

Hello Everyone,

The desktop version only has the following limitations when run in the trial mode:

  • Clone disk is disabled
  • Acronis Cloud Trial Subscription - 30 days

I'd try to re-install the software completely (to make sure all components have been installed correctly, please temporarily disable the antivirus and run the .exe file as Administrator). Should the issue persist, it's wort raising a support ticket (select Trial/Presales/Licensing question category).

There could be any number of reasons.

Is the media, whether flash media or a hard drive functioning? That is, can the device  you are attempting to recover your data from able to be detected by a computer? If it is a USB drive, or SD card, and your computer cannot recognize the device, then data recovery software will not work for you, as the software has to be able to read the device.

If the device is a hard drive, the same would apply.

However, the above scenarios may be something that a data recovery lab could address. Both cases would involve accessing the inner workings (for lack of a better description) of the device. This is not something the average end-user would want to attempt, since it requires some special equipment, and expertise.

Was the device formatted?

You can give this lab a call and discuss your scenario with them. They are a no-recovery/no-fee lab, so if they cannot recover any data, there is no charge for the recovery effort. Only shipping back to you if you want the device back.
