Delete archived data

Thread needs solution

So In archive options we have a way to delete archive. Below is screenshot

delete archvie.PNG

But when I click on it, it shows below message.

msg.PNG

Now I am not sure if saying yes will lead me to a list of archives to select and proceed for deletion, or it deletes all the data. I don't want to take risk as I may lose all my data.

There is not documentation on this option also. Can somebody help please?

Neeraj, welcome to these User Forums.

I have to confess that I have not used the ATI Archive feature before today as have not had any need for this.

I have configured 2 small archives to the Acronis Cloud and have a better understanding of this feature than I had before (some versus none at all!).

Looking at the Delete option, I get the same Delete Archive warning panel as you have shown, and even though my archive was of 2 different folders from 2 separate drives, it looks as if this is counted as 1 Cloud archive, as I was given no option when creating the second archive to do anything other than use the exact same Cloud options as the first one used!

This makes me believe that if you click on the Yes button on the Delete Archive panel you will be removing all the data archived to the Cloud.

If your data is important, then you need to use the options shown on the main Archive page:

2018-10-02 Archive.png

If I click on 'View in File Explorer' then this shows me the contents of the Acronis Drive M: with my 2 linked folders to the Cloud Archive files / contents.

2018-10-02 Acronis Drive.png

I can then use normal Windows Copy & Paste commands to copy the contents of these folders to another storage location / drive, which will cause the files to be downloaded from the Cloud before taking the Yes option which would delete the cloud archive files.

I can confirm that taking the Yes option to the Delete Archive panel does delete all the archive data from both the Acronis Cloud and removes the links that were shown for the Acronis Drive locally, so do not do this unless you are happy to lost this data or have copied the data to another location!

i tried this Archive feature recently. it comes handy if you just want to archive but still able to access it anytime you want. However, by not allowing user to select the desired files/folders for deletion is really limiting the use case. i hope Acronis can consider adding this feature in the near future.

HFC, please submit your comments using the Feedback tool in the ATI GUI.

HFC, I've documented your request, thank you!

I agree. Very limiting if you can't tidy up archives. It look like it's been half implemented.

Thank you for sharing your feedback, Steven! if there will be enough votes for this feature request, Acronis RnD will consider implementing it.

Hello! Where do I go to vote for this feature request?

Hello Jan,

Could you please share more details on your user-case? I'll link your comment to the internal feature request.

My use-case:

I tried to use the Archive feature today via True Image. Seems to work fine, though it doesn't grab some folders to to an unknown permissions issue. I can't seem to find info on specific permissions required?,

Nonetheless I was able to archive one folder. I found that Cut/Paste doesn't allow removing files from an archive, thus the archive would just grow continuously without being able to manage data inside.

It would be great to remove files from Archive which may come back into use or to simply delete files no longer needed in the archive, as it's not feasible to Copy/Paste data out before deleting an archive and then creating a new one again to maintain Archive size.

Please help with the folder permission  requirements if possible?

Hello Waldo,

have you tried turning off Acronis Ransomware Protection?  This module has the built-in Self-Protection feature that protects all Acronis internals and backups from modification/removal.

Hello Ekaterina!

Sorry for taking so long to reply.

I use the archive to store photos for sharing, and some of these files/folders are just meant to be available for a certain time period, after which I want to delete them. As it works now, to do that I would first need to download my entire archive, then delete the unwanted files/folders to finally upload the archive again.

It would be easier if I could just delete these files/folders directly from the web client or the app.

Thank you for providing more details, Jan! Registered your comment as a change request

As others have well described, being able to delete files/folders from within the archive would be very useful, a great feature to have.

Any update on where the feature request stands in the development/release cycle?

Thanks.

Normally the first thing we hear about the progress of a feature request is when it turns up in 'new features' list for a beta. ATI 2021 is currently in beta testing - I am subject to a confidentiality agreement so am limited in what I can say about it. You could try joining the beta program and see for yourself -  https://www.acronis.com/en-us/personal/computer-backup/beta/
