Different names for backup jobs and backup files

Thread needs solution

I'm backuping my whole system to different hard drives. With ATI2013 I was able to name the backup job e.g. "Backup to blue" and the backup file "complete" which then wrote backups to G:\complete_full_b1_s1_v1.tib...

When I'm now creating a job called "Backup to black" in ATI2019 to do an incremental backup to H:\backups\PC it creates backup files named "H:\backups\PC\backup to black_full_b1_s1_v1.tib"...

After creating multiple backups to multiple external harddrives I cant't see in the job listing to which drive that backup was written. My drives got different drive letters, so thats a way to identify that but this was way more convinient in older versions of ATI...

So where can I edit the job name and the file naming of the backup files in ATI2019!?!?!? Am I missing something?

If you left click select the backup job in the GUI then right click on the job you will get a menu that allows for Rename.  Make sure you use this as changing names with other methods will result in corrupting the TI database and cause your jobs not to function.

If I right click on the job name and choose rename, it renames the job name and the file name of the backup as stated above...

This is a difference between the versions.  2013 had the ability to do as you say but suffered from database corruption as a result.  That has been changed in recent versions of TI to the behavior you experience now in an effort to mitigate the corruption of the backup database of the application.

So how can one now organize the backups if you can't name them properly?

If you backup the same source to multiple targets the job names are all the same, like in my case. So if I have backed up my PC to 4 external HDDs I can't identify the first HDD I saved a backup on cause they look all the same in the job listing, all are named e.g. PC... So I can't tell which backup is the oldest on which HDD and which is next in rotation.

Feature request: Implement a string for a user defined title of the job...

Tobias, the best solution to this issue would be to create separate destination folders to hold the backup files for each of your different computers, then point your backup tasks to use those separate folders.  This is much easier to manage than putting everything into one place!

I'm backuping to multiple different external HDDs, so there's nothing at the same place!?!??

I just don't get whats so difficult to add a user defined field to the job configuration and to display that content in the job list when != null. A simple feature ATI is lacking since a few years now...

Or just displaying the volume label of the external HDD (if any is used for the backup) in the job listing would be very helpful. But that would require way more developing skills then just adding a user defined string...

Atm my job list looks like this: (my PC is called T9)

T9
K:\Images\T9

T9
G:\Images\T9

T9
H:\Images\T9

Backups on 3 different external HDDs, only identifyable by the drive letter in the job list. Do I have to put stickers now on my HDDs to know which drive letter is being used? In a "professional" backup solution...???

Tobias, sorry but you will need to raise this directly with Acronis if the standard functions of ATI are not to your liking.  We are just users like yourself and cannot change the design of the application, we can only offer suggestions on how to circumvent any limitations.

I thought this is the official acronis forum...? So thanks for your private efforts, hello Paragon... ;)

Hello Tobias,

I've added a reference to this thread as a vote for the existing feature requests. Currently, the only way to have different naming on different drives would be having separate backup plans for each target drive.
