Failed to Deploy Settings

Thread needs solution

I am attempting to change the destination file and frequency of TI (build 14690), the settings fail with a window that states "Failed to Deploy Settings. Reboot and try again, check anti-virus settings". AV is Kaspersky 2019, turned it off, same result. Rebooted, same result. Repair install, same results using all methods.

What to do?

Please provide more exact details of what you are trying to do here?  If possible use screen images to show what you want to change and how you are trying to do the change?

Are you able to create a new backup task with the desired destination and scheduling changes?

Currently I have TI set to do an incremental image every 6 hours.

I want to change it to every 3 hours. So I change it to every 3 hours on the properties page. Press ok.

It fails to deploy the task.

Where do I create a new backup task?  I can find no setting for that.

Thank you for the screen images.

What type of user account are you using when trying to make these changes?
ATI really requires that you use an Administrator level account in order to have all the necessary authority / permissions.

To add a new backup, click on the '+ Add backup' text shown in the lower left corner of the main ATI GUI panel, this will open up the dialogue to configure a new backup task.

If this doesn't help, then I would recommend doing a Repair Install of ATI 2019.  To do this, first ensure you are using an Administrator account, then reinstall ATI 2019 over the top of your existing software without uninstalling first - this will show you an option to Repair (or Uninstall).

I would recommend downloading the full ATI 2019 Installer program from your Acronis Account downloads page to use for the repair install.

So one can't change an existing backup's settings. A new backup needs to be created.

Account was admin. New BU created, old will be deleted, done & dusted.

Thank you.

Thank you.

That has never been the case - I have always been able to change any backup settings without any problems, so unclear as to why this was an issue for you?

If you have been able to create a new backup task and all is as you want it, that is good!

Hmmm, strange behavior to me too as I've been able to do the same as Steve throughout my history with Acronis.

I've not had an issue changing backup time frames in the past and being able to save the change.  I also just recently changed not only the backup frequency of a backup, but also the name, and type of backup from incremental to differential.  It allowed me to do all of them and save the settings.  The next backup resulted in a new full backup (as expected because of the name change), but the backup task itself was the same one that was modified.

Once you have the new backup completed (at least an initial full), I'd be curious if you're able to modify the backup time frame again, or not?

Also curious, but what did the "more details" link in the error window provide (if anything)?

With past builds I was able to change settings also which is why I was confused.

More details provided no ne details.

Tried changing settings on the new schedule and it did change so I am at a loss as to why it wouldn't.

Thanks for the interest and help from the forum.

Hmmm, did you upgrade from a previous version - wonder if something got dorked up in the app itself.  The transition from 2014 to 2015 was the biggest change and required a full uninstall of 2014 before moving to 2015.  Since then, it has "mostly" been upgrade over the top, but I've seen issues with people who want from 2015 to 2016 or 2017 as well.  I started clean with 2017 some time ago and have been upgrading over the top with 2018 and 2019 without issue, but it seems like every now and then people still run into weirdness with upgrades (perhaps due to numerous major version upgrades, or perhaps even moving from OS versions like an upgrade from Win 7 to Win 10 in the past with an older version of Acronis).

I suppose as long as it's working correctly (for the most part) all should be fine if you're OK with just creating a new task when needed.  If you want to completely resolve (hopefully), you could fully remove with the cleanup tool, reboot and do a fresh install (be sure to right click the .exe installer and run with "run as administrator" even if you're already logged in with an admin account).  You'd have to configure a new backup task, but hopefully starting with a clean slate would iron out any potential issues that are under the hood.

Happy to try and help out as time allows!
