Full backup always lags in "calculating time" in same place

Thread needs solution

Hi all,

brand new fresh install of ATI 19. Backup runs very briskly at first but always hits the 254 MB mark and comes to a complete halt, stuck on calculating time remaining.

have tried turning off vss and telling it to ignore bad sectors.

is it at all possible this is due to way drive is partitioned? see below

these pre-built partitions have given me trouble with other things in the past but not sure what the next step should be. I've been nervous about putzing around with them too much.

Have seen another topics with calculation hangups but none exactly like this, or in '19.

Thanks for any help. Will provide more info if needed.

should note that the destination is an external drive with ample space. this is a win 8.1 x64

You say that the backup stalls; does it eventually abort and show an error message? I suspect there could be a problem with one of the hidden partitions. As the fist step I would suggest downloading the MVP Log Viewer and check for any error messages. I suggest posting the content of the log file as an attachment so we can help you in understanding what is going on.

You do not say how long this behavior lasts but I will tell you that what you describe is normal behavior for the app.  The on screen message is a bit misleading.  The application scans the disks while creating the VSS snapshot of the disk so this takes some time.  I use SSD and HDD devices and generally this "stuck" behavior is not very long.  If you feel yours is excessive I would recommend running chkdsk on all partitions on both the source and target disks.
