How to Remove Orphaned Incremental .tib Backup File

Thread solved

I am using Acronis True Image 2019, Build 17750 on an HP laptop running Windows 10 Pro version 1909, OS Build 18363.1198

Using Clean Up Versions within Acronis True Image, I removed a previous backup. However, one of the incremental backup files of about 10 GB, was not deleted, and remains as an orphan file: "LAPTOP-8O3GM25P_inc_b16_s4_v1.tib" .

First I tried to delete the file directly, by right clicking on it and hitting delete. Then I compounded the problem by trying to cut and then paste it to my desktop, and then dragging the file to the recycle bin.

This did not work, and instead, left me with 2 copies of this orphaned 10 GB .tib file.

Please help me to remove this file. Is there a simple way of doing so without having to uninstall the entire application, then use a cleanup too, then go into the registry to delete keys, etc?  The two orphaned files are just wasting C Drive disk space.

Thank you for your help, which is much appreciated.

Cheers,

Joel, welcome to these public User Forums.

With ATI 2019, you also have Acronis Active Protection which is designed to prevent your Acronis backup files from being deleted or altered by malware such as ransomware!  One side effect of having AAP active is the issue you are seeing here in this topic.

In order to delete the unwanted orphaned files, you will need to temporarily turn off AAP using the controls provided either via the system tray icon or in the main ATI 2019 GUI panel.  This will allow you to remove the unwanted files before turning AAP back on again.

Thank you Steve. This was very helpful. I have implemented your advice, and was able to delete the orphaned incremental backup file. Thanks again for your excellent help.

Cheers,

Joel
