laptop clone SSd

Thread needs solution

The SSD in my laptop is acting up. I want to clone an external SSD (same size) for back up. When the cloning is done,do I have to swap the SSD's or can I just power up and leave the original SSD as my C drive?

Allyn, welcome to these User Forums.

Please see forum topic: [IMPORTANT] CLONING - How NOT to do this

If your original SSD is 'acting up' then I would strongly recommend making a full disk backup of this drive to an external backup drive, then to go to the SSD makers support web site and download any diagnostic tools that they provide to check the health of the drive.

If you do go ahead and clone the SSD, then you should not attempt to boot your computer with both drives still connected as this can cause serious issues for Windows.  Cloning is intended as a means of duplicating one drive to a second, then for that second drive to be used to replace the first one.
