Thread needs solution

If i use password protection on my acronis backups, will these backup files be safe in case of ransomware?

Anyone who knows?

Rik, welcome to these public User Forums.

Password protection will only prevent access to the contents of your backup files.

If ransomware gets a foothold on your PC, then it can alter any files it can access without any need to use a password, so your password encrypted backup files could be encrypted again by the ransomware to render them inaccessible!

The best protection against ransomware and any other malware, is to always keep your system fully up to date in terms of any updates for the OS, your applications etc, alongside having up to date antivirus and firewall protection.

All of the above tools won't have any benefit or value if any users on the PC open links in unsolicited emails, open unexpected attachments, visit questionable web sites etc.

The final part of protection is to have multiple different backups, stored on different media and in different places, with at least one copy stored offline from any network access, such as in a safe or different location.
