Moving my backup to a new machine

Thread needs solution

Hello

Surely someone had asked it before, but i haven't found a ste-by-step guide how to solve this issue:

My old workstation died and so i've bought a new one, moving my data-ssd-drive to the new one.

I've labeled it as D, same as it was in the old workstation, downloaded ATI 2019 and logged in.

Now, how do i move easly my backup settings to the new workstation.

Thanks in advance, Eyal.

Eyal, if you have moved your data drive to a different computer then you are going to have to reconfigure your backup settings even if you restore a copy of these from the old, failed computer.

In ATI 2019 there is an option in the Setting page of the main GUI (at the bottom) where you can save your configuration settings to a zip file, then later import those settings back from the zip file, but you would have needed to have used this option on the old computer to use the import option on the new one.

If you have a backup of the old computer that includes the C:\ProgramData\Acronis folders then you could do a selective restore or copy / paste of the C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts and Database folders from that backup .tib file to your new computer.

If attempting the last option, then I would strongly recommend restoring to another location first and not directly to the original location, plus you need to restore any files without their original permissions.

The easiest method of doing this if you have a backup .tib file, is to double-click on the file in Explorer the use Copy & Paste for the two folders (Scripts & Database).

Hi Steve, Thank you for your answer.

I hadn't made any backup of the old computer and the old c drive which had ProgramData had already been formated. I never guessed i would need it. I thought the cloud and my account detalis covers it all.

Eyal, how was your D: data ssd drive used on the old computer?
Was this used as the destination drive for your backups, i.e. to store your backup files?
Or was it used as the source for your backups, i.e. backups of this data drive stored on another destination drive?

Steve, let me describe what happend, hope it will answer the q.

On my old machine i had 2 ssd hard drives:

1. 256GB SSD with win10 only

2. 2TB SSD with My Data (some of it is backed up using ati 2019)

Both hard drives were physically moved to the new machine.

No.1 was formated and win 10 was installed.

No 2  stayed the same.

Thank you for clarifying the use of your 2 drives in the new computer.

Without a backup of your Acronis folders from the ProgramData path on the old computer, then sorry but you will need to make a clean start on the new computer and create new backup tasks.

If you have some backups of some of your data on the second drive, then you can use the option in the main ATI 2019 GUI to 'Add existing backup' to select the most recent .tib file(s) for each of your backup chains.  Note: you only need to add one file for each separate backup task.

The above process will create a task in the GUI using the full name of the backup file you selected, i.e. MyBackup_inc_b2_s3_v1

You will see that the only option for such added tasks is to [Reconfigure] where you will need to reselect the Source locations (files / folders or partitions etc).
