Need feature to change IP address / location of network backup

Thread needs solution

I see this has been posted about already, and I'm sorry to be so blunt, but it's just utterly ridiculous that professional backup software is so easily tripped up by something so simple as changing an IP address.

I have the backups going onto a QNAP NAS device. Sometimes, the IP address of the NAS has to change. And if that happens, it should be possible to just edit the target path. I'd go so far as to say this is a bug, not a feature request, because when I click "Change Destinaton" on the target folder of the backup, it doesn't let me change the destination - it just asks me to enter the username and password - which are already correct. Obviously, it won't authenticate the username and password when it's trying to access an address that already exists.

I've tried editing the script in the folder, which doesn't help, and I've searched registry keys but can't find anything there.

Sorry to vent - but this is just silly.

David, see the following KB document section: Where Acronis True Image 2016 stores credentials for accessing NAS/network shares - which is where you would need to either edit the key name in the registry or clear the values to allow ATI to ask for the new destination.

Also, be aware that you can use the NAS device's host name rather than IP address when defining the NAS to ATI.  The ATI definitions (including the registry records) will contain the name rather than address and ATI will be find the NAS as long as a DNS query returns the current IP address.  (This may work only if DHCP is used to assign IP addresses.  I seem to recall that the host name is provided during the DHCP handshake, but I could be remembering incorrectly.)

Hello David,

Sorry to know about this disappointing experience..I've passed your feedback to the product management for review (added as a vote for the existing feature request).

Thanks all, and I hope I didn't come across as too irate! I'd love to see this addressed via the program's own GUI, but I'm comfortable with editing the registry for now.

Best
David
