New SSD troubles

Thread needs solution

Hi there,

So I recently bought a new SSD, Crucial MX500 to be precise, which comes with free software in Acronis True Image, initially I followed the link provided on the booklet given with my SSD and followed to steps to clone my old drive onto my SSD (Which my SSD has enough space for.) and it fails towards the end and refers me to a log that was generated.

https://pastebin.com/nbZUitLK - This link has error codes and the log about what exactly went wrong, the only issue is I am completely baffled as to what it is despite numerous Google searches, 8 hours later and I'm still at square one with no solutions in sight. I have tried chkdsk on the old hard drive, to no avail and have considered many other numerous programs to try and troubleshoot the issue and/or clone the drive with no such luck.

Even when the clone has been completed with errors it won't boot into the SSD upon shutting down my PC and unplugging the old drive, which means I'm forced to reconnect the old drive again just to boot up normally and then I'm forced to wipe the SSD and start at the beginning again.

Any ideas?

Nate, welcome to these User Forums.

The log shows a format/resize error which indicates that one of the partitions on your source HDD is too large to be shrunk to fit on the new SSD.

Without more information it is impossible to advise you further.

What are the details of your HDD - what are your partition sizes, what size of used data?

What is the size of the new SSD?

I would recommend doing a full defrag for the HDD then consider using a partition manager program such as MiniTool Partition Wizard to resize your main OS C: partition using that tool.
