No TIB file created when starting from DVD

Thread solved

Hello experts,

I used several versions of Acronis since more than 10 years. I use to use True Image from CD/DVD and create backups in TIB format.

For my Lenovo Tablet X1 Gen2. True Image did not recognize the harddrives at all, so I bought a new version.

To avoid TIBX format I decided to use 2019 edition which should be the last version in TIB format. The backup from the DVD run sufficient, but there is no TIB file on the D-Drive or the external (USB) SSD. And the file is not hidden, as the space on the drive was the same after the backup.

It there any thing I have to do to get the TIB file written on the disks?

Thanks a lot

Trissa

Are you sure you are looking at the correct HDD; drive assignment is usually different when running the recovery media - that is definitely the case for Windows RE/Windows PE.

Ian

Thank for your answer, Ian,

Yes, I am sure. The first backup was on the internal D disk (there is only one internal drive with two volumes in the Tablet PC) and by the other files and directories on the D-Drive I am sure, the the TIB file should have been on D:\Acronis\ where I stored the file.

In second attempt I used an external SSD and by the size of the SSD I am sure that Acronis should have stored the TIB file there - as I also created an subdirectory on the SSD for the TIB file - but also here no file was written.

The Lenovo Tablet PC is running WIN10 64Bit newest version.

Trissa, the first suggestion here is to do a CHKDSK /F for the drives where you believe the backup files should be stored, to see if this reports finding free space issues / errors on those drives?

The possible explanation for why you are not seeing the .tib file is that when you booted your PC from the DVD, that the PC wasn't shutdown fully but was in a hybrid sleep state.  The effect of running ATI from a hybrid sleep state is that any filesystem changes made by ATI are lost when the PC resumes back into Windows via the Windows Fast Start option.

To test this, you should either ensure that a full shutdown is done by pressing / holding a Shift key when clicking on the Shutdown option, then booting from the DVD, or else, go into the Windows 10 main Settings panel, then Update & Security and use the Recovery > Advanced Start-up option to boot from the DVD.

Thanks, Steve. I am quite sure that the PC was booted from the scratch. I used the Shut Down button and all control lamps were off (without Power). Then I started the PC and went directly in the Lenovo BIOS settings where I selected the USB DVD device to boot from.

I do not use the hibernation mode on the Tablet PC.

The Volume D: and the extenal SSD was already checked with Chkdsk and no problem was reported (nevertheless I used the option chkdsk /f/r to ensure that errors are corrected).

Trissa, on the hybrid sleep question, please check your tablet PC power options to confirm that this is not being used.

PS D:\powershell> powercfg /A
The following sleep states are available on this system:
    Standby (S3)

The following sleep states are not available on this system:
    Standby (S1)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.

    Standby (S2)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.

    Hibernate
        Hibernation has not been enabled.

    Standby (S0 Low Power Idle)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.

    Hybrid Sleep
        Hibernation is not available.

    Fast Startup
        Hibernation is not available.

PS D:\powershell>

Assuming that the above is OK, then we will need to see the log file for the backup operation to try to understand more of what is happening here?

For backups performed using rescue media, the Log has to be saved while still in the rescue environment (as is lost on reboot).  Click on Logs, then right-click on the top line of the log entry shown in the right panel and take the option to Save that is shown.  You will need to save the log to either the internal disk drive or to a USB stick etc.

Thanks for all your help.

I could solve the problem in the way that after finish of the backup, I tried to restore from this backup file but just before the restore would start I canceled the process. And I removed the USB SDD before shutdown.

Then the .tib file is on the disk.

Strange and I do not know if ATI did not finished the FAT entries after writing or deleted the file when shutting down ...
