Not sure if Boot Camp clone is working properly

Thread needs solution

System:  17" Macbook Pro (mid 2010) running Mac OS 10.11.1 (El Capitain), with Windows 7 Professional SP1 running in Boot Camp.  The drive is partitioned into Macintosh HD (Mac OS), Boot Camp (Windows), and User Data (No OS - Data only)

So I used Drive Image 2019 to clone my internal drive to an external USB drive and everything seems to have worked fine, except for one oddity.  Previously, when I booted with the option key held down, I got three choices, Macintosh HD, Windows, or Recovery 10.11.1, and this is still the case after cloning to the external drive, if the external drive is not connected.  However if I boot with the external drive connected, and the option key held down, I get five choices, Macintosh HD, Windows, Recovery 10.11.1, a second Macintosh HD, and a second Recovery 10.11.1.  All these options work as expected.  However, since the cloned external drive should be an exact duplicate of the internal drive, I was expecting six choices, but am missing a second Windows option, to boot to Windows on the external drive.  Once  booted into Mac OS, I get two Macintosh HDs, two Boot Camps, and two User Datas as expected, so the external drive Boot Camp is there, it's just not providing the option to boot to Windows on it at startup.

I have no real need to boot Windows from the external drive (although it would be a nice option), but I'm concerned that if I have to recover from a failure of my internal drive, by cloning the external drive back to it, or to a new internal drive, the option to boot into Windows will also be missing, when booting from the new/repaired internal drive.

I suspect the problem may be because I'm booting with both drives attached, and that the Widows boot  option for the external drive might appear if I boot with just the external drive connected.  Unfortunately, since this is a Mac laptop, disconnecting the internal drive to test this theory is not easy (some laptop disassembly required).  Is this the only way to verify that booting to Windows is available and working on the external drive?

Any comments or advice would be most welcome.

I have no experience with Mac or the ATI for Mac product, but Microsoft do not allow Windows to be booted from an external USB drive by design, so this may be why you do not see an option for this.
