Problem with restoring the MSR partition

Thread needs solution

Hello.

Here's what I noticed, and that was also noticed by other users, during a restore with the bootable cd: Continues to ignore the existence of the Microsoft® Reserved Partition (MSR) partition present in the UEFI-GPT partitioning, but it does not matter, AOMEI Backuper's system backup also ignores it. Personally I still pass by Macrium Reflect not to ignore it as a backup even if this partition is not important. And in any case it does not disappear spontaneously, in principle, if it is present.

The Microsoft Reserved Partition (MSR) reserves space on each disk drive for later use by the operating system software because GPT disks do not allow hidden sectors.

Nathanael, the MSR partition is really a throw back to having a Legacy / MBR system where the MSR holds the Windows Boot Configuration Data store with information required by the OS in order to boot correctly to the Windows desktop.

For UEFI / GPT systems the MSR partition is redundant and the equivalent BCD information would normally be stored in an EFI partition.

The way in which any Recovery / Restore or Clone is performed using the Acronis Rescue Media will determine whether the MSR partition is respected or not.  If you boot the rescue media in UEFI mode that this may cause the MSR to be ignored or allocated differently, whereas booting in Legacy / CSM mode will expect to find an MSR partition (unless the BCD is held within the main OS partition instead).

Thank you for your reply.

Even though this partition is not fundamental to the proper functioning of Windows. If she's here, it's because she's still important.

Why not restore it without touching the basic partitioning?

I reported this to the technical service. I'm waiting for news.
