Recovering a backup from an old computer
Hi,
I'm trying to open a .tib that was created by ATI 2019 on an old PC which has now been wiped and donated. (The backup is on a portable WD My Passport HD.)
The backup was a disk/partition backup of the old C; drive. On the new PC, with ATI 2019 installed, I can't mount it by right-clicking -- I think because it was not a sector-by-sector backup. When I open the ATI 2019 application, there is no backup listed from which to recover, because the backup wasn't created with this installation.
I don't need a full recovery of this data, I'd just like to open the .tib, navigate through a few folders and get some specific files. How could this be done?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info. I will fun the "repair" steps as suggested.
Just wanted to confirm my understanding: even if a disk/partition *.tib is not a sector-by-sector back up, it should be possible to mount it as a disk from Explorer (right-click)?

Hmm, I'm looking at the user guide at http://dl.acronis.com/u/pdf/ATI2019_userguide_en-US.pdf but section 4.7.6 does not seem to address this.

Click the Add existing backup button then navigate to where your .tib is located to add it to the GUI.

Correct, you do not need a sector by sector backup to navigate the content of a .tib. I never use them as you lose all compression and space saving. I can explore all of my non-sector disk backups with file explorer, where Acronis is installed and licensed correctly.
Just curious but how old is that backup (what version was used to create it)? 2014 and earlier cannot be viewed with explorer in current versions of Acronis but could be restored with rescue media though.

This didn't work for me. In the Acronis app, I selected "add existing backup", navigated to the .tib file on the external HD and selected it. It prompted me to enter the password (as the .tib had been encrypted when created), then the pop-up window dimmed for a few seconds, and .... nothing. The backup did not appear on the list of backups in the "Backup" screen. No error message or other clue. ?

The backup was created with ATI 2019 just a few weeks ago. I reinstalled the same version on the new PC

Perhaps try to reinstall Acronis and select the repair option though. Make sure to download the latest from your account and also make sure to right-click the installer and "run as admin" even if already logged in with an admin account.
It should import normally, especially if importing a backup taken from the same major version of Acronis True Image.
Also, just to be sure go to the properties of the root of the external drive and make sure all users is given full access to everything. Then try to import after the repair and doing that.
