recovering a disk image to a new and larger volume

Thread needs solution

I'm planning to replace my existing HDD C drive with newer, larger capacity SSD unit.  Reasons - more space, and faster performance.  The plan is to do it after my next backup cycle:  backup C, replace drive, recover C to new unit.

My question is, can the backup image of C be restored to a larger volume space on the new SSD directly, or must the new unit be sized to the old volume before restore, and then expanded to use all the available space after the restore is completed?

You should not need to do anything to the new, larger SSD. Hopefully when you do the restore Acronis will offer to automatically resize partitions. I have found resizing manually using Acronis to be sub-optimal. I use the Minitool Partition Wizard (free version) to do resizing - avoids issues with hidden partitions (EFI and Recovery) which do not need to be resized.
