Recovery problem

Thread needs solution

Good evening, is it possible that the restore function with DVD support of the version Acronis 2019 Build 14110 does not restore a backup made with Acronis 2017? I found myself with the recovered system disk not usable. Thanks Augusto

Augusto, welcome to these User Forums.

I am not aware of any issues with restores performed using the Acronis Rescue Media on DVD or USB and don't recall seeing any posts here in the forum suggesting that there might be issues?

ATI 2019 should be fully compatible with your ATI 2017 backup image.

Please can you provide more details of what exactly you have been doing here?
What type of backup image is involved - is this a Disk & Partitions image or a Files & Folders?
What actual steps have you been following?

When using the bootable rescue media, then it is a good idea to save the log from any actions being performed but this has to be done before you restart the computer as will be lost after doing so.  The log can be copied to disk or a USB stick etc.

A subsequent backup made regularly with Acronis 2019 being restored gives me the visible error from the attached image. Thanks Augusto

Augusto, the 'unable to lock disk' error may be caused by doing a recovery when the system was in a hybrid sleep / hibernation state where the drive is made unavailable to prevent changes needed by the recovery.

Thanks Steve, but the reset is done with USB emergency, then with the system turned off via USB and chosen Restore; this is the system partition (C:\). Thanks Augusto

Augusto, if you did a shutdown with Windows Fast start enabled then this does not do a full shutdown but puts the system into a hybrid sleep state.

If you press the Shift key while clicking on Shutdown, then a full shutdown is done.

So after turning off the quick shutdown / restart option do I have to redo the backup?

Do you confirm that this greater control of Acronis was not present in the 2017 version?

I have been using the program for at least 15 years but I have never presented any problems before.

Thanks

Augusto

Augusto, this is nothing to do with Acronis but is a feature of Windows with the implementation of Fast start.  The backup made with ATI 2017 should be fine.

An alternative approach here is to do a Restart when wanting to boot from the Rescue Media as this does force a full shutdown before booting from the media.

You are very kind and I thank you for the time you have dedicated to me.

With Windows 10 (without disabling quick start) and with Acronis 2017 I have never had any problems, probably with Acronis 2019 other controls have been introduced.

Restoring backups made with Acronis 2017 probably does not do them for the reason highlighted: backups done without disabling quick start.

Thanks again

Augusto

Augusto, if you still have the ATI 2017 Rescue Media, then try doing the same restore using that and see if you see the same lock issue?

Augusto, if you are willing / have time to do so, then I would recommend opening a Support Case with Acronis for this issue with ATI 2019 and refer them to this forum topic to see what actions have been tried etc.

Glad to know that using the ATI 2017 media all was restored OK for you!

Problem solved! The support created with WinPe creates problems, if created with Linux everything is ok.

The WinPe solution is predefined by Acronis for creating support; just to me problems?

For everyone, is it ok?

Thanks

Augusto

Augusto, glad that the Linux rescue media was able to do what you wanted here.

The Windows PE version of the media works fine for me and for others, but not necessarily for everyone.  I suspect that this can depend on the computer hardware involved too!
