Replacing full externall backup drive with new larger external drive

Thread needs solution

I have been using for sometime a 500GB external hard drive for my full computer backups using True Image.  It is beginning to get full and I want to purchase a larger hard drive to allow for more backups in the future.  Do I just plug in the new drive and do a backup as usual?  Will I be given an option to let the system know this is a new drive and that is why none of the other backups are present?

May depend on version of ATI you are using. The minimum hassles approach would be to move the backup task to the new external HDD using ATI. That will mean that it will continue to work just with the new drive (if will adjust for the new location). This may take some time. Another approach would be to create a new backup task on then new drive - you can use clone settings to replicate the settings for the current backup and then modify it for the new location. Moving files outside of ATI if you are using recent versions of ATI will require you to temporarily suspend anti malware protection for the backup files.
