Replacing RAID 1 with a single SSD

Thread needs solution

Hi!

I am currently using windows server essentials 2012. I would like to replace the current 2-disk RAID 1 array with a single SSD. Am I able to do this using any Acronis products?

Thanks!

Jon, you should check out Acronis backup 12.5 for server products. True Image only supports desktop versions of Windows.

https://www.acronis.com/en-us/business/backup/supported-systems/

But yes, Acronis is capable of transferring an OS from a disk RAID to a single disk NVME.  Make sure the OS has NVME support (it can see the drive attached while booted into the 2 disk RAID).

Typically, you'll want to use WinPE rescue media (can be created with the product) and include the latest Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) drivers to detect the RAID with the rescue media.  Or, if you have a specific Dell controller (LSi, PERC or something like that, add those drivers into the rescue media too).

As Bobbo says, this can be done with ATI 2019. Bobbo assumed that it was an NVMe SSD but this is not clear from the posting. Is it a SATA SSD, or an M.2 SSD (if so, is it SATA or NVMe). There should be no issues if restoring to an ordinary SATA SSD, but as Bobbo points out there are driver issues if it is an M.2 drive.

Backup 12.5 is probably a more powerful product to be used in a server environment.

With RAID one when you 'break' the RAID array you end up with two disks with the same disk signature which can cause havoc. So it is important to remove both of these disks before doing the recovery to the new SSD.
