Restoring image to 2nd identical PC and activating WIndows

Thread needs solution

Hello, all

I got my wife a Dell Inspiron 7000 PC for christmas which is the same model laptop I have.  I have a fresh image I created from my laptop which is stored on my network server (without bloat, settings the way I like them ect...).  Can I reimage her PC with this image and have Windows still be activated?  I know the key is in the BIOS so I'm wondering if Windows will see this key after I perform the reimage and still be activated but with her key instead of mine.

The installation on my PC was installed from the MS website using a USB drive (not from the Dell site if that matters).

Thank you!

Anthony, welcome to these public User Forums.

Has your wife's new Dell laptop been booted into Windows 10? and activated based on the hardware signature of that system?  And does it have exactly the same version of Windows 10? as you have on your other Dell laptop, i.e. both Home, or both Pro etc?

If the answer to both questions is yes, then you should be able to restore your fresh backup image to her laptop and have it activate based on the same hardware being previously activated.

I would recommend making a full disk backup of the new laptop before attempting the restore, as this is your way back to the starting grid if there are any issues!

Thanks for the response!

Yes is has been activated and I believe it is the same version.  I'll give it a shot come Christmas time (it's wrapped up now).

Thanks again!
