Restoring from Windows

Thread needs solution

I know that it is recommended that a restore be done from bootable media. However, it looks like a restore can be initiated from the Windows program itself. But when the program restarts the computer to begin the restore, the computer boots back up to Windows with starting the restore. Care to comment?

Richard, any recovery / restore initiated from within Windows will boot using a temporary Linux based kernel OS which may not be successful if using UEFI with Secure Boot enabled, or if the backup file being recovered is stored on a network drive.

I would strongly recommend using the Acronis rescue media for any recovery that involves the Windows OS as this is safer and avoids any need to modify the Windows Boot Configuration Data files which could result in a non-booting system if not reversed.

Steve: I always do a disk restore from a rescue CD. I was just curious. Thanks for your reply.
