Thread needs solution

Hey, I´d like to clone my HDD to a SSD. On my current hdd I have 2 partitions, 1 with windows another one for storage (both one 1 hdd). Is it possible just to clone the windows partition to the ssd?

Philip, welcome to these public User Forums.

For your scenario, I would recommend using Backup & Recovery as the method to move from the HDD to a SSD, as that is going to be the easiest and safest way of doing so.

Make a Disk & Partitions backup of your HDD which is stored on a third drive, normally an external USB drive - make sure that this includes any hidden / system Windows partitions needed for boot.

Create the Acronis bootable Rescue Media and test that you are able to boot your computer from this and 'see' the HDD drive contents.

Note: See KB 59877: Acronis True Image: how to distinguish between UEFI and Legacy BIOS boot modes of Acronis Bootable Media - as this is an important aspect of using boot media.

Shutdown the computer, remove the HDD and replace with the SSD (assuming both are of the same type of drive).

Boot from the rescue media with the external backup drive connected, then recover your backup to the new SSD by selecting the top disk option (which will select all other partitions below this level).

Once the recovery is finished, shutdown, remove the boot media and external drive, then test booting into Windows.

Note: Check your BIOS settings for the Boot mode before starting - this will probably show 'Windows Boot Manager' for the boot device.  Ensure you have the same settings after the restore.
