trouble getting cloned SSD to boot

Thread needs solution

I created a bootable USB with Acronis true image on it (linux based)

I boot to the USB, select tools / Cloning

it sees both SSD drives, I select the 1TB as source and the 2TB as destination.

it takes around 15 mins to copy and tells me all is well, but when I try to boot to the new SSD it doesn't boot.

any suggestions?

thanks,
Daryl

Hello,

Welcome to our forum!

We appreciate your presence here. Kindly review the following Knowledge Base (KB) articles and apply the recommended solutions:

  1. https://kb.acronis.com/content/59877
  2. https://kb.acronis.com/content/46405

For the recovery process, we recommend using WinPE bootable media instead of Linux. You can find detailed instructions in this KB article: https://kb.acronis.com/content/61621.

Also note that before performing the clone it's advisable to execute a full backup of the disks to recover.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation! If you have any questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask.

Best regards.

Daryl, did you remove the 1TB SSD and replace it by the cloned 2TB SSD?

If you are trying to boot with the cloned 2TB SSD connected via USB then it will not work - this is a Microsoft limitation!

Yes, I removed the original  1TB drive.

Also, it was mentioned to use Win bootable instead of Unix.   When I tried that it said something like "cannot lock drive"

Hello!

Please check the following knowledge base article to see if it applies to your situation: https://kb.acronis.com/content/56619

Best regards.

Daryl, how is your new 2TB SSD connected to your system when you are trying to boot from it?  It cannot be connected externally via USB but must be installed inside the computer in place of the original 1TB SSD.
