True image wd edition doesn't recognise wd green ssd

Thread needs solution

Bought wd green 240gb ssd and loaded true image wd edition to clone existing hard. Connected with sabrent USB ssd adapter but true image doesn't recognise the drive as wd and restricts installation. Adaptor worked fine with a crucial drive and true image crucial edition. Any ideas? Do I have to purchase full product?

Tim, welcome to these public User Forums.

Please see KB 2201: Support for OEM Versions of Acronis Products - which applies to any OEM branded versions of Acronis True Image from WD, Crucial etc.

The core issue here is probably the Sabrent USB SSD adapter preventing the recognition of your WD SSD.

You should create the bootable Acronis Rescue Media from your installed WD ATI software, then boot from this using the same BIOS boot mode as used by your Windows OS to boot.  Test that you can boot the rescue media  without issue, then shutdown the computer, swap over your current boot drive and replace by your WD SSD, then connect the removed drive to your USB adapter, then try the clone again in that way.

Note: it is strongly recommended to make a full disk backup of your current OS drive to an external backup drive before starting on a clone action, and ensure that you do not attempt to boot into Windows with both drives connected.

See forum topic: [IMPORTANT] CLONING - How NOT to do this

Thanks Steve. Unfortunately I cannot install wd ati as it ceases installation because it can't see a wd drive.

Tim, sorry but the options if wanting to continue with using Acronis would be to get a different USB adapter or else to buy a copy of the full Acronis product.

You could try a 30-day trial copy of ATI 2019 but this does not allow cloning in either the installed application or using the rescue media, so you would need to use Backup and Recovery instead of Cloning.

Thanks Steve. Seems odd that adaptor worked for crucial see but not wd .hey no. Thanks for your time.

I have some issues WD Green SSDs. First off I could not register it with WD - the serial number/model number was not in a recognised format, which may be why it is not working for you. My recollection is that they are made by AData which was acquired by WD some time back.

All I can suggest is that you contact WD and explain the problem and hopefully they will have a solution.
