What kind of backup do I have?

Thread needs solution

Sorry, I'm a huge rush - situation beyond my control.  Normally, I'd take my time to read a little.   Here goes:

I bought Acronis True Image 2019 ten minutes ago and have installed.  Immediately after installing this screen came up saying "backup" and asked where to put the back up. I chose my NAS drive.   It is backing up right now (hopefully, will finish in the next 20 min. before IT comes to install software - long story - but that is why I am in a rush).

Anyway, what type of backup is this?  I want an EXACT IMAGE of the disk (hence the reason for buying Acronis "True Image" - but marketing can be confusing).  So, what do I have?

I would have thought you'd have to boot from an external device for that - to create an exact image.  So, I'm left a bit confused over what type of backup this really is.

Is there a way to check after the fact?

The backup file has an extension *.tib

David, welcome to these public User Forums.

If you accepted all defaults when running ATI 2019 for the first time, then this will create a backup of the 'Entire PC' which is a full disk image of the OS drive & all its partitions, but can also include other connected drives in the PC too (permanent drives, not removable).

If you look at the .tib file produced, then you should see _full_b1_s1_v1.tib as part of the name where the first part tells you this is a full backup file.

ATI 2019 can also create a backup of Files & Folders which would create a different type of _full_ backup file, but you would need to specifically select this type of backup to do so.

Acronis use the Microsoft VSS (snapshot) service to capture the image of the disk without the need to boot from offline media on DVD or USB stick, though the latter would be needed to recover the backup image to a new disk replacing the old one, especially if Windows was not bootable.
