2016 upgrade -- Unhappy Camper

Thread solved

I asked in the 2016 forum if the upgrade would keep my settings. I understood the answer to be yes. I have installed the upgrade and it has wiped out everything in the C:\ProgramData\Acronis folder and replaced it with new blank/startoverfromscratch stuff. When trying to set up a new backup it has a button bar (which I can't find right now that says something like "Import Settings." Import from where?

When I try to set the target for the backup it will not show the folder I was using, and when I enter it manually it throws away everything but the drive letter.

Boy, how I wish I hadn't done this.

Jim, the option to Import settings is intended for users coming from ATI 2018 or later where a new option was provided in the main Settings page where you can export those settings from the GUI to a zip file, then later import them back.

For users of earlier versions, you would need to copy back the C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts folder (.tib.tis) files from one of your backups made with 2016, which should then allow your old tasks to show in the GUI.

I am a little surprised that all your settings were lost when doing the upgrade and can only think that Acronis deemed something to be incompatible even after uninstalling the 2016 app.  Normally it takes the cleanup tool to remove all those folders / contents.

You should turn off Acronis Active Protection in the main ATI 2020 GUI & exit the GUI before copying back the .tib.tis files to the Scripts folder, and should also browse through the task settings after they show in the GUI including checking that the source & destination settings are still correct.

Well, Steve

I think you've done it again.  I got the script folder from an earlier Acronis backup and it seems to have fixed the target addressing.  Time will tell, but for now things look good.

Another question:

With the last version I think I created the recovery disk with the main program.  This time was an auxiliary program named Acronis_Universal_Restore_2020.  Is this what I use to create the recovery disk?

jim,

In the main TI application GUI click on the Tools tab, then click on the Rescue Media Builder icon to create a recovery media.  Universal Restore is only needed when recovering to dissimilar hardware.
