Acronis 2020. build 21400 bogging my PC down.

Thread needs solution

I just purchased Acronis TIH 2020, build 21400 on October 3, 2019. The first day everything was OK but the next day my computer was running very slowly. I rebooted my computer which took almost 10 minutes! I finally unistalled Acronis 2020 and restarted my computer; everything was normal again. I reinstalled Acronis 2020 and all was well...until the next day. Again, my computer was just crawling! I uninstalled Acronis 2020 again and everything was fine. What is going on here? I have never seen this happen before. My System: I7 3.4 GHz 8 GBytes of RAM Windows 7 x64 Acronis 2019 ran just fine. When I upgraded to Acronis 2020 I began having problems. Tim767

Tim, if you're willing to install ATI 2020 again, when it slows down your system can you run the Task Manager and Performance Monitors to see what may be going on. Might give a clue as to where to look.

Also, check out this earlier thread. Could be the same issue.

Actually, I have 2 Acronis backups on an internal HDD: one with Acronis 2016 installed on it, and the other with Acronis 2020 installed. Therefore, it is a matter of less than 15 minutes to swithch from one to the other.  I'm not familiar with using the Task Manager for anything but to shut down a locked program.  I know about the tab that shows the Processes, thought, and I think that may be what you're talking about.  I followed the link you gave me and I would say you are right: that seems to be exactly what I am experiencing.  At first, the way running downloaded videos was slowing down my System I was beginning to think it might be a memory problem.  I don't think it is hardware, though, because when I run the computer with ATIH 2016 installed, everything seems ok.  When I recover the backup with ATIH 2020 installed it only takes a few minutes to see the System slow down and become unresponsive.  After that, it will take a long time to shut the computer down and I will most likely have to force it to shut down.

Do think it would be possible for me to just use ATIH 2016 and wait for Acronis to fix the problem?  I'm sure they must know about it by now!  I like ATIH 2020 and would like to use it if I can.

I had the high CPU utilization once when ATI would run.  narrowed it down to Windows Defender not liking ATI running.  I finally just left the PC run in the sluggish state and left it for most of the day.  When I returned all was back to normal and I've never had the problem since.

Dear Tim, if you have some time for investigation, I'd suggest raising a support ticket still, because the issue might have different root causes depending on the environment.

Dear Ekaterina, I kind of did what Enchantech [above] did.  I just left it alone and now it seems to be not so bad.  Initially, I couldn't even get my computer to shut down, even though I hadn't run ATIH 2020 at all during that particular session.  My computer still "knows" it's there but the problems are minimal.  I have always considered my computer to be pretty strong, though.  (I7-2600 3.40 GHz; 8 GByte RAM; running Win 7 x64. I always ran MS Flight Simulator X very well.)  Sooner or later I will have to get Windows 10 and maybe that will allow ATIH 2020 to run more smoothly.  I have read that the best way to do that would be to get a new computer with Windows 10 pre-loaded.  I Thank all of you for your help!

The CPU is getting rather old - released in 2011. I used a similar CPU for until a few months ago and if I recall correctly did so with 2020 beta for a while. Only difference is I had 16gig of RAM and was running latest build of WIn 10 Pro 64. These days 8 gig of memory is absolute minimum to run Win 10.

I've been planning to max out the memory on my ASUS PC go 16 GByte.  And  need a new nVidia Card, too.  I've been running with the video that is wired on the board since July of 2018.  ;-)
