Acronis 2020 Install Fail

Thread needs solution

Acronis True Image 2020 failed to install on my Windows 7 OS.

Install gave no option to install on drive different than c:

The program asked me to uninstall True Image 2015--which I did.

Now I have no means of doing ANY backups.

Greg, welcome to these public User Forums.

Please remove your license serial number from your signature as this is open to the whole internet!

All versions of ATI will only install to the default C: drive.

After uninstalling ATI 2015, it is recommended to run the Acronis Cleanup tool (link below).

The cleanup tool needs to be run as Administrator, and will remove any residual files, etc left over from the old version of ATI and also any other installed Acronis products such as Disk Director.

After using the tool, restart the computer to complete the cleanup action before attempting to install ATI 2020.

All installs of ATI should be done from an Administrator account to ensure all the required authorities & permissions are given.

Thanks, Steve.

Will try Cleanup Tool later today or tomorrow AM

Using the Cleanup Tool to make Registry edits could be a recipe for real trouble if you make the wrong keystroke--which is why I'm temporarily holding off using it!

Too bad there isn't an automated version of it.

Do you think the Microsoft Fixit Tool could successfully remove the ATI remnants instead?

Greg,

You can ignore the registry edits.  Typically they are not needed.

Thanks!

Well, I ran the Acronis Cleanup Tool, and it did remove the remnants of my ATI 2015, without my resorting to tricky Registry edits...

But initially, I got the same error message about the failure to install--then the Install went OK.

Thanks for your feedback!

Greg, the error message refers to a temporary location but from your update, this seems to have resolved itself.

With any of these strange issues, it is probably best to clean out temporary files if encountering problems.  I tend to run CCleaner for this purpose (though not on a regular basis), other tools can do the same, i.e. Glary Utilities etc.

One issue that can trip up users is if the user profile location has been moved to another drive leaving just a link behind which the ATI installer doesn't seem to cope with!

Steve - I regularly use CCleaner to get rid of any file remnants from installs or whatever.

A very useful utility program!

I used Glary Utilities many years ago; didn't realize they were still around.
