Acronis and partition types

Thread needs solution

Hello

I have been curious about how Acronis works at the partition level, since I am seeing behaviour that I don't yet understand. I was wondering if anyone could set me straight please?

Say I have storage partitioned in MBR. I backup the partition using recovery media using TI 64 bit. When I recover the partition, is the partition automatically converted to GPT? If so, how do I retain MBR? Use ATI 32-bit?

Please correct me if my knowledge is way off!

As I understand it, if the computer uses UEFI rather than Legacy/BIOS it will format the drive as GPT rather than MBR. It has nothing to do with using x32 or x64 recovery media.

The following information is included in the ATI 2020 user guide (p98):

In most cases the disk being GPT rather than MBR is irrelevant, as most OS recognise GPT disks (see discussion here).

This is the way Acronis works; not everyone likes it and if I recall correctly there is a change request to allow users to select if the recovered disk is GPT or MBR.
