Acronis Backup Settings

Thread needs solution

Hello All,

I use incremental backups to backup my entire PC to NAS on my LAN. Below are the options I am using (adding as a file in case the image does not show up). What is happening is Acronis creates a full backup of my PC and then when it runs a backup a week later, it creates another full back up. Each backup is about 400Gb so unless I delete the older backup, Acronis keeps adding a new full backup of about 400Gb.

Based on the setting below, I thought my PC was only going to backup the items that changed since the full backup. Should I change the option about "deleting chains older than 183" to something like 2 days. I don't think I set it at 183 days. I think that is the default.

What I want in a nutshell is to only have one up to date back up on my NAS. If it has to be a full back up every time that's ok but it would be better if Acronis simply updated the backup version that is already on the NAS. My NAS is fairly large but adding 400Gb backups will eat up the available space quickly.

Does it make sense to have Acronis Validate the back up?

Thanks, Bill

Bill, in your settings the reference to 183 days is for automatic cleanup and I would recommend changing this to using the option below this for 'Store no more than 2 recent version chains' which will help keep the size of your backup images on your NAS to around 1TB.  This would be comprised on 2 x Full backups of say 400GB, plus 2 x 5 Incremental backups, leaving room for one further 400GB Full backup to be created before Acronis automatically deletes the oldest backup chain (Full + 5 Incremental files).

If you are only see ATI create Full backup files, then this is either wrong or you are not seeing the information correctly!

Because you are making a Disk backup using ATI 2020 this uses the new .TIBX image file format where any Incremental backups are automatically consolidated within the same .TIBX file as the initial Full backup for the chain.  You will not see separate files for the incremental backup files as you saw on earlier versions of ATI using .TIB files.
