Acronis compatibility with HPE SED

Thread needs solution

Hi guys, has anyone gained experience dealing with HP Self Encrypted Drives and True Image. Any Known Bugs/Issues? Or is the procedure similar to Jobs with MS Bitlocker? BR Fabian

Fabian, I have not see any topics in the forums with mention of HP SED drives but from what I have read about this feature, it will really depend on how it has been implemented on each system?

If this is implemented at a Hardware / BIOS level then provided the drive is unlocked before booting into Windows or booting from any Acronis Rescue Media, it should be completely transparent to all applications run after that point.

If it is implemented at a Software level, then you would need a method of unlocking the encryption either before using the Acronis Rescue Media (for any recovery or backup etc actions), or else need a Windows PE compatible application to unlock the encryption from the boot media environment.  I would assume that there would be a Software method of unlocking the drive to allow Windows to boot in this scenario.

Beyond the above comments, you would need to discuss this directly with Acronis based on how you would be intending to implement HP SED drives.

Hi Steve,

thank you for the quick response. For HP SEDs the password is needed in POST, so your answer makes this topic a lot clearer.
