Acronis Drive Cleanser Frozen on 1 Hour 53 Minutes Since Yesterday

Thread solved

Hello,

I have (2) 2TB Hard Drives that I am using Acronis Disk Cleanser to wipe the drives. It started yesterday @ 10:00am.  The estimated time given was 6+ hours. From the forums, I know the estimates provided are suspect.

However, last night, the time estimated remaining was 1 hour and 53 minutes. This morning, it is still 1 hour and 53 minutes. Task manager shows that the process is running and Disk Management still show the drives.

So, how long does it take to wipe (2) 2TB hard drives? Oh, and BTW, this estimate was on the status of '1 of 4 - wiping partition'.

Dean, I would suspect that Drive Cleanser might run for a very long time depending on the options selected, the size and speed of the drives involved and the way the drives are connected, along with the performance of the host PC being used.

Drive Cleanser is one tool that I personally have never used in anger due to never needing it.

If I have a disk drive that I am disposing of, then I will take it apart and ensure it will never be usable again if appropriate.  Otherwise, I tend to reformat the drive for Linux using EXT4 or similar a couple of times which would require forensic tools to try to recover any data from though I cannot think of anything on my drives that would be worthy of the expense of such investigation!

Hello Steve,

I just hate to add to the landfill. I was hoping that someone could use the drives to play with backups, or small NAS, etc.  I have taken by 1TB drives disassembled them. But thought 2 TB might be used to somebody.  Maybe your right, maybe not worth it.

BTW, the Disk Cleanser is still running.

Dean, fully understand and I haven't needed to disassemble many drives - the last one was back in the summer and produced a very powerful magnet (from the actuator arm) that has been useful.  All the parts went into recycling as far as possible - lots of metal.

If your 2TB drive is still good for using, then there are other tools such as Darik's Boot & Nuke (DBAN) that you could use.
