Thread needs solution

Vielen Dank

Hi, I want to image a physical machine with Acronis 2020 and then run it within a virtual machine (Vmware Workstation 15.1). How do I do it? Is that possible via Universal Restore or are there other tricks here? Thank you very much

You would need to create a new VMware virtual machine based on the Windows OS type and disk size of your physical machine, plus allowing for future growth, but take the option to install the OS later.

Assign the Acronis rescue media .ISO file to the virtual machine CD/DVD drive and let it boot from the ISO into the recovery environment.

You will further need to either connect your USB backup drive to the virtual machine or else use a shared folder with the backup image file in it.

At that point, it should be possible to recover your backup to the virtual disk in the new VM.

Note: if your physical machine uses UEFI BIOS boot mode, then you may need to go into the BIOS settings for the new virtual machine to get this to match the same boot mode.

If you are migrating a Windows 10 OS then there shouldn't be a need to use Acronis Universal Restore.  If the OS is an older version of Windows, then AUR will probably be needed.

You will probably also need a new license for the OS when run in the virtual machine due to the changed hardware signature presented by VMware.
