Acronis recovery fail - Dell XPS 13 with Win10, Acronis True Image 2020 WD edition
Hi there, we had to send a XPS13 Win10 laptop to Dell for repair. Before sending, we did a full backup with Acronis 2020 WD edition. We just received the laptop back with no disk changes (was a fan problem). They reset the OS but disk is the same.
While I can recover individual files, recovering entire PC, partition or the disk fails after restart with a "disk not found 0x40011 error code".
Anyone has any ideas on what could be happening and/or any solves?
Will it work if I selected all the files/directories, including the Windows directory and recovered (since file recovery is working). I didn't try that because it doesn't make sense to do so, with recovery running inside Windows (surprised the software even allows that).

No, it won't work because critical files are locked by the OS when it is running so you could end in a much bigger mess by having some files & folders mismatched to information about them in other files and the Windows registry.
The OEM versions of ATI are normally restricted to working only when a drive by the same maker is present within the system, so you should check that you have a WD drive present!

This is more likely to be because doing any recovery from within Windows results in Acronis launching a temporary Linux based OS environment to do that recovery on restart but that this does not have support for the type of drive you have or if that drive is using RAID mode.
For any OS recovery, it is highly recommended that you create and use the Acronis Rescue Media and not attempt this from within Windows.

Thank you Steve. I didn't see this as a step or guidance in the product at the time of the backup.
If I were to build an Acronis Rescue media now and boot from Acronis Rescue media, will that work?

Yes, it should work provided you meet the requirements for the OEM version of ATI being used.

Ok. Let me give this a shot and circle back. Thanks!
