Acronis True Image 2020

Thread solved

Does anybody know why the validating takes so long to complete after a backup?  It seems to take hours, whilst the backup only takes a few minutes.  Am I doing something wrong, or is this just the way it is?

Thanks all.

Helen, welcome to these public User Forums.

There are know issues with validation for ATI 2020 in that it defaults to validating every backup ever created for the backup task, including previous backup chains if available.

Personally, I do not elect to ever include validation in any of my backup tasks as as far as I am concerned it gives a false sense of security!

All that validation does is to confirm that the data captured by ATI and written to disk in the .tib or .tibx file remains unchanged.  It does this by recalculating periodic checksum values and comparing these with checksum values stored within the file.  If the checksums match then the file is deemed valid but this does not mean that the backup operation hasn't captured data that was already corrupt on the source disk drive, or which may include corrupted files due to the action of malware, viruses etc.

If you do chose to use validation, then please ensure that you have selected to Validate the latest diverse backup only - A quick validation of the last backup slice.

See the ATI 2020 User Guide: Backup Validation Options for more information on the above option.
