Acronis True Image 2020 gives wrong date to backup file

Thread needs solution

I have a multiboot PC: Win7 (my default OS) on a 240GB SSD, Win10 on a 120GB SSD, and Linux Mint 19.2 from a 2TB HD (which also has a 1.7TB NTFS-partition for data). I save my backups to a dedicated partition on another 4TB HD. Whenever Windows Update messes up, I restore my SSD's by using the Rescue Media. I have recently upgraded ATI to the 2020 version, and have since made two backups from Win7, and one from Win10. Backing up Win10 went smoothly. But when I backup Win7, it does it well, but, in the final stages, it sets the date of the backup to 4th November 2016 - both times! And then it appears to validate the file for a second time, but reports it cannot show any details on its content. The previous backup (ie: the first I made of Win7 with ATI 2020) now seems to show the correct date and its contents. In Windows Explorer the backup files show up with the proper dates, but I always delete an old backup to create room for the new one, and prefer to do that from within ATI, to prevent 'ghost-backups' there. (And I just discovered, that that date in 2016 originates from a backup I created on a USB-drive). Furthermore, I just noticed it does not always show my description of the backup, and a backup I made in August is shown below today's backup (which has the wrong timestamp), while a backup made in September shows up higher on the list. It's confusing!
o be sure: I have installed ATI 2020 on BOTH OS's, and create my backups from within the OS involved. So, why does ATI 2020 attach a wrong date to my backup in Win7? ATI 2018 never did that.

Lex, from just the information given above, and given that you are backing up your different OS partitions from within the active Windows, then it looks as if there are issues with the database information held by ATI on that OS where it is run.

The database is only used by the ATI application in Windows, not for when restoring backups from the Acronis Rescue Media.

KB 60915: Acronis True Image: repairing program settings - has details of how to force a rebuild of the database information which would be worth trying here.

Please be aware that after upgrading to ATI 2020 you will need to recreate your rescue media, especially if you create any new Disks & Partitions backups that use the new .tibx format, as these are unreadable by any previous versions of ATI and their rescue media!

Thanks for your response, Steve, and I did follow step 1 of that article. It did not solve the issue, however.

In my Back-Up partition I have Win7 and Win10 in separate folders, each folder holding 4 backup-files. In ATI 2020, I now only see 3 files for win7, and only 2 for win10. Only ONE of those (for Win7) shows its date and a summary of its contents - and that file was created with ATI 2018!! (and it has the extension for ATI 2020; ie: .tibx, while a backup created with ATI 2020, has the .tib extension of ATI 2018). I rebooted Win7, just to be sure, and it did not make any difference.

Should I just clear my list in ATI 2020, and add the files manually, by hitting 'Add existing backup'?

I did create a new Rescue Media; that's standard whenever I upgrade. I noticed, however, that DD 12.5 failed to create a bootable ISO, while ATI 2020 did the job perfectly, and included DD 12.5 without prompting for it.

Just an afterthought: for Thunderbird (my email-program) I have ONE profile, holding my emails, on a separate drive, which I can access from both Win7 AND Win10. Could I do that with the ATI database, as well? It might solve a lot of issues, I think.

Lex, please see forum topic: Acronis True Image 2020: new tibx backup format FAQ - including the linked KB documents provided within this topic.

When dealing with the new .tibx files, these work differently than .tib files created by earlier versions of ATI, which could account in part for differences that you are seeing.

If you want to make a clean start with ATI 2020, then I would recommend removing all of your backup tasks from the GUI while leaving your backup files in place.  Once done, create new backup tasks for each of your Windows OS partitions, using new, unique names and storing the new .tibx backup files in new folders, then review how these look at that point.

If you have ATI installed within each copy of Windows, then the ATI database and all other configuration data, settings etc have to be stored in the C:\ProgramData\Acronis folder structure of that OS.  You cannot have this folder stored in any other location, and it cannot be shared between the 2 different copies of Windows.
