Acronis True Image 2020 Universal Restore - Different Hardware

Thread needs solution

Hello everyone,

I changed my mainboard and CPU yesterday and previously backed up Windows 10 Pro with Acronis True Image 2020. After the hardware change was complete, I tried to start Windows 10 again. Get BSOD immediately as an error message: "INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE".  Now the question is: if I use Acronis True Image Universal Restore because it is a different hardware, would everything work again?

Thank you in advance for the reply!

greetings, Sascha

Sascha, welcome to these public User Forums.

After doing the hardware change, did you just try to boot from the original disk drive or did you do a recovery of your backup image to the disk drive?

Part of the recovery process for an OS backup image is to set the correct BIOS and Boot Configuration Data for the change in hardware.

If you haven't done a recovery, then please try doing so, even if you use a spare disk drive to recover to, then retry booting into Windows 10.  Acronis Universal Restore is not always needed with Windows 10 due to its better handling of hardware changes during the boot process (but you obviously have to get past the inaccessible boot device issue for this to happen).

Hello, thank you for the quick reply. I'll test it in 2 hours what you suggested. I will edit this post if I know more.
