Acronis True Image 2021 and BitLocker once again

Thread solved

Hi all,

As this is my first post please forgive me if I did something wrong. I have a ATI2021 and everything was working without any problems up to yesterday when I have plugged in and old ATA HDD, through an adapter (I did this before a lot of times).

All of a sudden it starts to create a backup as normal:

then stops and tries to do it for number of given times (in options) but now the backup creation speed drops to 12KB:

To finally give me an error message saying:

"Unable to back up a locked volume encrypted with BitLocker. Unlock the volume or turn off BitLocker and then try again"

And what it worst in this case, that the only drive that has a BitLocker active is the C: drive:

Does anyone have any suggestions what can be wrong and how to solve the problem? I would like to keep the C drive as it is, as I know that it has been working before.

Thank you for any tips

I think that the reason for that might be some bad blocks/sectors on the HDD. I have just connected it to an old IBM DOS operating computer where I have some other backup software and this had a problem with reading some of the data.

Bad thing is that the ATH showed some misleading warnings on which I have focused on while looking for the solution :( but this is something that might be usefull for other users once they come accros similar issue :D - check the external drive for bad sectors

Przemyslaw, welcome to these public User Forums.

If Windows is up and running from the C: drive (as it has to be to work!), then by definition BitLocker is already unlocked and Acronis should also see it as being unlocked too.

If you are seeing bad blocks or sectors on that disk drive, then it is possible that these errors are causing Acronis to believe the drive is still locked but that is very unusual!  I would expect Acronis to normally post warnings about bad sectors etc.

I would suggest using the diagnostic tools provided by the disk drive manufacturer to check the drive.

Dedicated diagnostic utilities from the disk manufacturers take the longest time to complete the checks, but provide the most accurate methods of checking whether the disk is good or needs replacement:
