Acronis True Image for Crucial - How to clone operating system files and application files only

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I have purchased a Crucial 1TB SSD, which is bundled with Acronis True Image for Crucial software.

When I run the software, Acronis says "There may not be enough free space on the system partition to boot up your operating system after recovery".

I have a 2TB HDD, which is partitioned into two partitions by default, as follows:

1. C Drive - 947GB free of 1.75TB (contains the operating system and software application files)

2. D Drive - Windows recovery partition - 41.2GB free of 59.9GB

3. SSD - 931 GB free of 931GB.

Now, on paper, it looks like the disk data I am cloning is about 820GB ((1.75 TB less 947GB) plus (59.9GB less 41.2GB). Is my Windows 10 using additional "hidden" operating system data as part of the 2TB source HDD? Because 190GB is unaccounted for.

Anyway, I know wish to clone the operating system and software application files only from the "C Drive" - the source drive to the SSD destination drive. Is it possible to use the free Acronis True Image for Crucial software to do this? If not, which software do I need?

All I want is to boot up from SSD and for the existing software applications currently installed on operating system to work (The other data I have backed up already or can manually transfer over after SSD operating system installation).

I know there is software available that allows you to clone the operating system and software files only, but the detailed information and instructions for those are buried with the standard instructions on how to clone a standard 1TB HDD disk to 1TB SSD as a whole.

Thank you for your time and comments. I have attached a photo of my partitions.

Amil, welcome to these public User Forums.

See KB 2201: Support for OEM Versions of Acronis Products which applies to all OEM versions of ATI supplied with hardware purchases.

Just from the initial information given, I suspect that there is insufficient space available on the new SSD to allow it to be used and provide reasonable performance.  SSD drives typically need to have about 20% free space available for performance reasons.

This means that keeping 20% free space on your 931GB SSD would only leave 745GB space which won't fit the 820GB of data being cloned from your 2TB drive.

Hello Steve,

Thank you so much for your comments. I will reduce my HDD source drive below 400GB and then try again.

Will let you know how everything goes.
