Add existing backup fails

Thread needs solution

ATI2020 Build 38530
Using daily differential backup, with full version after 27 diff (every 4 weeks).

Just installed a new external drive - moved all data from old drive (D:) to new (F:).

Changed backup to point to F: instead.

ATI told me that I would loose the history, which I did, but told me to add existing backup.

Adding existing backup (i had expected to select the folder with backups, but had to select individual TIBX files) fails with - "Failed to add the backup to the backup list. The backup may be locked or corrupted. Also, make sure the folder contains the last volume of the backup, and does not contain a renamed copy of the same backup."

The naming of the backup files doesn't indicate if they are full or diff, but from the size it is obvious (name is simply "MyBackupName"-#### where the # is incremented by 1 for each time a backup is made.

I manually clean up by deleting the "diff" files when a new full is created (ATI can't do this as I can see, as I want to keep the full ones).

If I move a "full" file to a new folder I can add it from here - but I can only have 1 file in each folder.

Is it just ATI that is limited or am I doing something wrong?

Help much appreciated...

Karsten, welcome to these public User Forums.

In part you are falling foul of the new rules that apply to .tibx files since introduced in ATI 2020 where there is greater interdependency between all files created by backup tasks.

Secondly, if you are manually deleting unwanted differential files via Explorer etc, then you are causing problems both with metadata and the internal tracking database used by ATI.

Just installed a new external drive - moved all data from old drive (D:) to new (F:).

Did you use the 'Move' option in the ATI GUI to move this data to the new drive, or did you move these files manually outside of ATI?  The former would / should have handled everything for you while the latter hits the issues mentioned above!
