aggiornamento pc con cambio scheda madre e processore

Thread needs solution

Grazzie e buon anno a tutti

I would like to upgrade my pc, replacing the motherboard and processor, The SSD with the operating system and programs are currently with MBR boot, but to upgrade to a newer processor it must be GPT. I would like to do the replacement without formatting (for reasons of setting up different programs that would take a long time to do by reinstalling), can anyone tell me if with the help of Acronis it is possible to do this? And if so, what is the step by step procedure to perform?

Thank you and happy new year to all

Pierangelo, there are a number of considerations for when migrating an existing Windows OS to new / different hardware alongside the need to migrate from MBR to GPT, not the least of which is Windows activation which will be required as well as activation of any other applications that use the current hardware signature of your working PC.

Will you be staying with the same CPU family, i.e. Intel processor or are you considering a move to AMD?

Will any other hardware components need to be changed with the replacement of the motherboard?  There will definitely be changes to the integrated SATA and network controllers and possibly to any integrated graphics adapters.

Does your current PC support UEFI BIOS booting?  If it does, then you could do the MBR to GPT migration on that PC before attempting to migrate to new motherboard & CPU.

This type of migration can be done using Acronis True Image or its rebranded successor, Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office in conjunction with using Acronis Universal Restore software that comes with those programs.

You will definitely need to make a full disk backup of the working MBR OS disk drive before you attempt any other operations.
