Anyone know what this error means?

Thread solved

in this day and age there is no reason for such cryptic error messages.

All I was trying to do was to burn a Rescue CD

Bob, how exactly are you trying to burn your rescue CD?

Ideally you should be using the Acronis Rescue Media Builder tool to do this.

You also do not appear to be using the final version / build of ATI 2020 which was 25700 (your image shows 22510 which was 2 previous to the latest build).

See KB 63226: Acronis True Image 2020: how to create bootable media

I am a bit confused Bob; CD-R are write once, so it cannot be reformatted. It would have to be CD-RW.

Long time since I created optical recovery media. I recall that there can be a problem of the iso image being to large to be written to the disk - had to use DVD instead. (That was Linux rescue media; cannot remember if I used Windows RE or Windows PE on CD/DVD). However in that case I would expect waring that it would not fit on the CD.

I see the size of the Linux iso is 670MB and the size of CD-RW is about 650MB, so insufficient space may be the reason. CR-R maxes out at about 700MB.

Edit: The error message says the device is busy, which could possibly indicate that it cannot write to the drive.

Sorry, it was R/W.  I was able to create the bootable media on a thumb drive.

It would be nice if the error messages were understandable by normal people.

+1

Glad you managed to create recovery media - USB stick will be far more responsive.
