ATI2021: Backups > Recovery > Disks tool. Destination SSD Does Not Appear

Thread solved

Summary

I’m using the ATI2021 Backups > Recovery > Disks tool. (See Image-1). However the destination SSD does not appear in the Recover-To drop down. Does the SSD need to initialized to appear.

Drives Overview

I have three drives:

1. (B) A working temporary Boot drive (Windows OS). This was my previous OS-system HD, which I migrated to an SSD. (SSD later failed.)

2. (S) Source drive. An external drive with ATI system backup files (tibx) of the failed SSD.

3. (D) Destination drive. A new blank SSD to be used to restore from the tibx backup files. It does appear in Windows Disk Manager (see Image-2). It’s not initialized. It’s connected via internal SATA.

Step Details

Booting from (B), I’m able to get to the desktop and open ATI2021. Once there, I select the Backup > Recovery > Disks. (Image-1.) It correctly recognizes my backup files (S) under the “Backup” panel.

However my new blank destination SSD (D) does not appear in the “Recover To” dropdown.

Question

Main question: Does (D) need to be initialized to appear in the “Recover To” dropdown? Or is there some other reason it’s not appearing.

As mentioned, I want to use (D) as the destination drive to Restore my OS-System from backups. Later, I would use this to replace (B).

Thank you.

Paul, I suspect that you need to initialise the new SSD as GPT before it will be seen - you can do this by using the Acronis > Tools > Add new disk option.
Note: there is no need to create any partitions on the new disk when initialised, just leave it as unallocated space.  Acronis will wipe the drive and create partitions as one of the first steps of recovery.
