Auto cleanup of old versions not working

Thread needs solution

I have a problem that the auto cleanup is not working. The backup drive is filling up and unless I remember to manually delete the old files it eventually becomes full and backups stop. There is no warning that backup has failed unless you open the program to check.

The "cleanup old versions" options does not recognise  that there are any old versions to be cleaned (my back up is set for 1 full and 5 differential and store only 1 version chain). However if I check file explorer all the old versions which should have been cleaned are still there. These have to be deleted manually. My drive has enough capacity for about 2.5 full cycles before it is full so capacity is not an issue.

This feature used to work but now is defunct. If I have to keep doing these checks and cleanups manually I don't need Acronis! What is wrong as there is no option to modify this feature - it should just work.

Frazer, are you using ATI 2020 here, as per this forum?

I am not seeing any issues with automatic cleanup on my own backups using a mix of recent ATI versions (2017 thru 2020) which would suggest that there are factors at work here for your computer if this is not working for you.

If you are using ATI 2020, please use the Clean up versions tool (available from the task drop-down menu accessed by clicking on the caret 'v' to the right of the task name).  This will help you to clean up any unwanted files correctly.

After using the clean up versions tool, I would recommend forcing a rebuild of the internal database following the steps given in KB 60915: Acronis True Image: repairing program settings - this is assuming that you may have manually deleted some backup files outside of ATI at some time in the past!

Once the above steps have been performed, then keep an eye on your backups to check if automatic cleanup is now working correctly for you?
