Auto wakeup before backup.

Thread needs solution

Hello Acronis,

My big Server with 12 TB Storage is not running 24/7,because electric power in Germany is expensive.
This server is the target for my Backups. Now i have to turn on the Server, go to my Desktop Computer and run the Backup manually and then i perform a server shutdown.
Is there any possibility to do this automatet by script?
I found the option command before and after, but it cant run bach files there.
Either i cant get in to the options for my backupsettings if the server not running.
There is this nagging login prompt then.

Can i setup something like this: when time for backup then start acronis sheduled task, start server with wol magic packet, wait 50 second, perform backup, wait 2 minuts, connect via ssh to server, send shutdown to server.

Any Suggestions to get this done?

Marco, welcome to these public User Forums.

Probably the easiest method of achieving what you are wanting would be to create the scripts needed to start your server and later to shutdown the server.  Once you have those working correctly, then schedule these scripts to run a few minutes before your Acronis backup task is scheduled (ensuring that your time is set correctly).

Your script to shutdown the server would need to be able to check that the backup task is finished, which you could do via a Post Command in the task to create a text file that the shutdown task must find before proceeding.

Marco, if your server is completely shut down then the WOL would not work. If the server is in a low power but connected state then you may be OK there. I use a Synology NAS which has a wonderful ability to scheduled start and stop times so I have it on a schedule for just a couple hours a day, enough time to backup my systems. Any chance your server would have something like that?

You are right about not being able to get into the backup options when the server is down. This has been reported and I believe a change request has been initiated to allow backup tasks to be modified when the destination is unavailable.
